Why shouldn't I just use one of the free page sites?

There's an old saying that you don't get something for nothing. Never is this more true than dealing with free internet web pages. Some 'free' web sites: Add advertisments to your page, affecting how it displays. Pop up annoying advertising 'windows' over the top of your page. Use your e-mail address to send endless volumes of unwanted mail. Have long, hard to remember internet addresses. Are so busy they often can't be reached during peak net hours. There's nothing wrong with advertising but we think what gets placed on your pages should be up to you. We'll never cover your pages with any kind of advertising, release any of your personal information to anyone or use your e-mail address to harass you. Our fast servers ensure that your site is accessible 24 hours a day, even during peak internet activity. There's also the added advantage of your short, easy to remember internet address: bonuspages.com/yoursite.

Don't I need a lot more space than you're offering?

You may need more space if your pages contain lots of graphics, or if you need to store large files with your pages. For the average user, 2 megs is more than enough space to build an attractive, functional web site. For example, our entire site consumes less than 1/2 meg of space! (not including any of our subscriber's pages)

How can you offer web sites at such a low cost ?

As a relatively new company we're dedicated to keeping our costs low and passing the savings on to our customers. We do all of our own page design & graphics so we don't have to pay someone else to provide these services. At the same time, there's no compromise on the speed and reliability of the servers we host your web pages on.

Are there any hidden or additional fees?

No. We never charge our sub-domain cutomers any additional fees for transfers or hits. We may ask you to upgrade your account for unusually high traffic or if you require more than 2 megs of space. The only other additional charges are for e-mail or any of the other optional services you choose to order.

Do you accept credit cards?

We sure do! Credit card payments can be made using our online secure form by clicking here.

How do I sign up for a web site?

Reserving your web site couldn't be easier. Click on 'Order' on the toolbar at the top of any page (or click here), fill out our brief questionaire, indicate what size web site you are interested in and click on the 'send order' button. Within a few minutes, we'll send you a registration ID number you'll need for your first login. You can begin uploading files to your web site almost immediately. (Don't forget to write down your registration ID number, user ID, password and confirmation word. Without them, you may not be able to access your site)

What do I do with the registration number?

Once you've filled out our registration questionaire, your registration ID will be e-mail to the address entered on your application. Your browser will also be sent to the new user login screen where you'll be asked to enter user ID, password and the registration ID number. Be sure to fill in all three items exactly as you typed them on your application. (These entries are case sensitive)

What if I lose my password?

On all login screens, there is a Lost ID button you can use to have any missing information e-mailed to you. You must have at least 2 pieces of information available to use this option. If you've lost all of your information, you will need to write us to make special arrangements.

What will my internet address be?

Your web site is a sub-domain of the bonuspages.com site. For example, if you choose yoursite as your user login, the URL for your entire web site will be bonuspages.com/yoursite. If you purchase optional e-mail service, your e-mail address will be yoursite@bonuspages.com.

What if I want my own internet address?

In addition to our sub-domain hosting we can also provide you with your own virtual domain (www.yoursite.com). Prices for this option are slightly higher than for the sub-domain hosting. You'll also need to pay interNIC for registration and maintenance of your domain name. InterNIC will bill you directly, $70.00 for first two years, $35.00 a year thereafter. What is InterNIC?

InterNIC is a coordinating authority that was developed to manage the internet. InterNIC manages domain names, and handles the routing of internet traffic. Domain names are being taken everyday, so the sooner you register yours, the more likely you are to be able to use the one you want.

Are there any restrictions on what I put on my pages?

Not as long as you adhere to the guidelines set forward in our policy statement. We do not host 'adult' sites, pages that include links to 'adult sites', pirated software, other unauthorized use of copyrighted material or sites that support any kind of illegal activities. To keep traffic on our servers low we ask that you not store files within your web space that are loaded from other web pages or other servers.

Can I take orders for my products/services on my page?

Absolutely! Its relatively easy to set up a form on your site for your customers to fill out and have e-mailed to you. Or, you can provide a form your customers can print and mail via US Post Office along with their payment. Contact us for help in setting these up.

Can I resell space?

No. We feel that our prices are low enough that anyone can afford their own web site. You are not permitted to sell any pages on your site under any circumstances. Subscribers found violating this policy will be subject to immediate removal from our site with no refund of any fees.

Can I sell advertisments on my pages?

You may sell ads on your pages so long as each one occupies a small percentage of each page. Ads occupying the equivelent of a 500 x 50 pixel graphic image conform to this standard.

Can I use banner exchange ads if I want to?

Sure! Exchange banner advertising is one of the best ways to promote your site without spending a lot. Keep in mind that banner ads will affect how your page loads, so you'll want to choose a service that limits graphic size and provides fast transfers.

Do I need special software to work on my pages?

You need no special software to build your site. Once you register your site, you can use our WebSite ToolKit to maintain your web site. You will need a browser capable of http uploading if you want to transfer graphics or other files to your space. Both Netscape 2.0 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.02 with the HTTP File Upload addon have been tested and will work with our WebSite ToolKit. If you'd rather use FTP to maintain your site, we'll provide a private logon into your space upon request.

What if I don't know how to make a page?

Once you've successfully registered and logged in for the first time, an 'under construction' page will automatically be generated for you. You can edit this page using the WebSite ToolKit 'edit' function to add whatever text you want to have displayed. Check out our resources page for links to information about creating HTML documents.

Will you do my page for me?

One of the options you have available to you is our BonuspagesTurnkey service. You provide the text, graphics files and layout information and we'll generate your pages and put them online for you. A flat rate per page is charged for this service, billed quarterly in advance. Check our pricing page for the latest rate information.

What if I need more help?

Write us with any questions you may have about getting your page online. We'll either provide answers, or direct you to sources of information available on the web. We provide our customers with unlimited e-mail support at no additional charge!

How often can I update my pages?

Access to your site is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You may update your pages whenever you like, as often as you want.

How do I create my pages?

You can create your pages using your browser and our WebSite ToolKit by selecting either the 'create' or 'edit' buttons. An edit window will open in your browser to enable you to enter or change the way your page looks. You can also create your pages on your computer, then upload the finished files using your browser and our WebSite ToolKit's 'upload' function. Check our resources page for sources of HTML editors & utilities.

How do I upload graphics files?

Click on the WebSite ToolKit button on the toolbar at the top of any of our pages. Use your user ID and password to login to your site. Towards the bottom of the WebSite ToolKit screen you'll find a 'browse' button, which you click on to open a file browse window. Select the file you wish to upload from your computer and double-click on it. On the left side of the WebSite ToolKit screen opposite the 'browse' button you'll find an 'upload' button which you click on to transfer the file. Keep in mind that all file names are case sensitive. Once your site directory list updates, you should see the newly uploaded file listed.

How do I remove a page?

Click on the WebSite ToolKit button on the toolbar at the top of any of our pages. Use your user ID and password to login to your site. Locate the name of the file you want to erase in the directory listing. Click on the 'delete' button to the right of the filename to erase the file. The program does not ask for confirmation before deleting files, so use the delete function with care. You can delete any sub-directories in much the same way by clicking on the 'rmdir' button to the right of the directory name. Once your site the directory list updates, the erased files should no longer appear in the listing.

What is a CGI script?

A CGI script is a special kind of text file that the server can run to perform various tasks, such as displaying a hit counter, or mailing a form to you which has been filled out by a customer. We offer 3 basic CGI scripts already installed and ready to run. Contact us for specific instructions on how to use these on your pages.

How does the page hit counter work?

Each time someone visits a page containing a reference to your counter, the count increases by one and is displayed on the page. By changing the commands you embed in your page, you can change the appearance of the counter as shown below:

How do I put the time or date on my page?

The same script that generates the page hit counter, can also display the current date and time of day. You have a number of formatting options available to change the way the display is presented. Right now, its in Houston, Texas on .

How does the form mailer work?

The form mailer allows you to have information e-mailed to you from any form page you place on your site. For example, if you want to take orders online you would create a form containing fields for all of the information you need to process an order. Once the user fills out the form and submits it, an e-mail message would be generated and sent to you containing all of the information the user entered. You need only enter a few 'hidden' input fields to your forms to use this script. Contact us for specific instructions.
